How to use 4-7-8 breathing during a panic attack

If your chest is tight and your thoughts are sprinting, that does not mean you are failing. Your nervous system hit a false alarm — intense in the body, and still not proof that you are in danger right now.
Try 4-7-8 breathing
- Breathe in quietly through your nose for 4.
- Hold for 7.
- Exhale slowly through your mouth for 8.
- Repeat a few times. If holding for 7 feels like too much, shorten it.
The goal is a longer, softer exhale — not a perfect count. You are giving your body a slower rhythm to follow when everything feels too fast.
