If your heart is racing and your mind is screaming that something is terribly wrong — pause with me for a second.

You are not dying. You are not “going crazy.” You are having a panic attack: a false alarm from a nervous system that is trying, a little too hard, to keep you safe.

Today’s tool is the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique. It pulls your attention out of the storm and back into the room.

How to do it

Look around and slowly name:

Go slowly. There is no prize for rushing. The point is not to “win.” The point is to come back to this room, this moment.

This wave will peak and it will pass. You have survived every single one so far. You will survive this one too.
