What to do during a panic attack: name where you are

When panic hits, the room can feel unreal — like you’re floating outside of it. That isn’t you losing it. It’s your nervous system dropping the map for a minute while the alarm runs.
You can gently put one pin back on the map. Softly name where you are: the room, the building, the town. Not to force calm — just to give your brain one clear fact to hold while the wave moves.
How to try it
- Say (or think): I’m in the kitchen / bedroom / car / office — whatever is true right now.
- Add one more layer if you can: the building, the street, or the town.
- Optionally name one still object near you: a door frame, a mug, a window, a chair.
If words feel hard, point at the floor or a wall and silently note “here.” One true place-name is enough. You are still in this room.
