What to do during a panic attack: name three textures

When panic spikes, you can feel floaty — like you’re watching from somewhere else. Clothes, chair, phone, floor: ordinary textures fade while the alarm story takes over.
Naming three textures you can feel (soft fabric, cool glass, the grain of a table, the press of your shoes) gives your nervous system ordinary facts instead of the catastrophe narrative. Not to force calm — just to land one small sense at a time.
Try name three textures
- Pause. Soften your shoulders if you can.
- Touch one thing. Name its texture out loud or in your head.
- Find a second. Then a third.
- No need to feel calm yet. Three textures is enough of a start.
This peak can pass. You are still here in a body that can feel the room.
